The National Revenue Agency (NRA) checked 24 clinics and surgeries offering medical and/or dental services in Sofia and the surrounding region yesterday. It said it found breaches at nearly 60% of them.

Fiscal inspectors will now draw up penalty notices and impose the fines set by law.

Inspectors found receipts missing required details, a till where the cash did not match the figure on the fiscal device, wrongly recorded sales and VAT charged incorrectly.

The NRA advises patients to ask for a receipt when they pay at the surgery or the reception desk. If staff refuse, patients can hold back payment until they get the fiscal receipt.

Customers can also check for themselves by scanning the QR code on the receipt with the NRA Mobile app.

At the end of October, the NRA, together with officers from the Interior Ministry, the organised crime directorate (GDBOP) and the Customs Agency, checked 17 petrol stations across Bulgaria and found 7 breaches. Earlier, inspectors from the Fiscal Control Directorate found 16 breaches at 5 well-known restaurants in Sofia. Five breaches were also found at 10 perfume and cosmetics shops in the capital, checked in a single day.

People can report unissued receipts, fake or incomplete payment documents and other tax and social security breaches to the NRA Information Centre on 0700 18 700 or at [email protected].
