The National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Healthcare Professionals (BAHP) has authorised its chair, Diana Georgieva, to challenge the National Framework Contract for medical services for 2026-2028, the association said. See our original report: New framework deals with doctors and dentists for 2026-2028 published.
BAHP says the Bulgarian Medical Union broke Article 54(1) of the Health Insurance Act. It argues the union should have invited the association to the talks on the part covering nurses, midwives and associated medical specialists.
The National Health Insurance Fund and the Bulgarian Medical Union signed the contract in early September, without BAHP at the talks. Later that month, the association asked parliament's health committee to review the signing.
BAHP says that for another year the interests of healthcare professionals were not taken into account, nor were those of patients who may use care paid for by the health fund.
The National Council speaks for the professional body. It includes the members of the Management Board, the chairs of the regional colleges and the leaders of the national advisory councils.
