The first 150,000 doses of injectable flu vaccine have arrived in Bulgaria and will go to GPs' surgeries from next week, the health ministry said. They are for children and for people aged 65 and over under the two national programmes.

Bulgaria has received 50,000 doses of Efluelda for people aged 75 and over. This is the full amount ordered for the 2026/2027 season. The delivery also includes 84,000 doses of Vaxigrip for people aged 65 and over and 16,000 for children.

The background: Flu vaccine nasal spray for children starts October 5

The other 300,000 doses of Vaxigrip ordered for the two programmes will reach the distributor's warehouses between 9 and 13 November. The ministry cited the authorised representative of the marketing authorisation holder.

The ministry says the flu jab is the main protection and helps both before and throughout the flu season.

On 5 October the ministry said an updated COVID-19 vaccine and nasal flu vaccines had also been secured for the 2026/2027 season. Vaccinations with them have already begun.
