Five Bulgarian hotels have earned the prestigious MICHELIN Key according to the latest 2026 rankings published yesterday on the official Michelin website. These distinguished properties include Blu Bay Hotel Sozopol, AYA Estate Relais & Châteaux near Melnik, Kashmir Wellness & Spa Hotel in Velingrad, as well as the capital's InterContinental Sofia and Junó Hotel Sofia.
A total of 12 Bulgarian hotels are featured in the overall MICHELIN Guide selection. In addition to the five main properties awarded the Key, the list also includes Sense Hotel Sofia, Oborishte 63 (The Art Boutique Hotel), Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena Bansko, Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort, Sea Sense in Sozopol, Ensana Aquahouse in Varna, and Wine and SPA Hotel Chukara.
Blu Bay Hotel Sozopol deserves special attention as a newcomer to this year's list. Established in 2017, the hotel already boasts a solid history of accolades – in 2024, the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association named it the "Best Five-Star Seaside Boutique Hotel," and in 2025, the property received three international recognitions from the World Luxury Hotel Awards.
Earning a MICHELIN Key is a unique distinction that differs from the traditional star system, as the focus is placed on the overall guest experience. Michelin defines this status as a "very special stay" – a place with its own individuality and character, where the level of service exceeds expectations for its category.
The process of establishing Bulgaria as a destination continues; at the end of last year, the capital officially underwent a culinary audit – a key first step toward potentially entering the MICHELIN selection. Similar efforts were highlighted in a series of media reports showcasing locations distinguished by consistent quality, a clear connection to the destination, and a high level of service. It is worth noting that the nine properties honored in the 2025 rankings were awarded certificates by the Ministry of Tourism for their professionalism and contribution to Bulgaria's reputation.
