An international conference titled "Food for Tomorrow: Solutions for People and the Planet" starts at 9:30am at Sofia University's Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, the Bulgarian Food Bank says.
The event looks at how cities can build fair, sustainable food systems, with the main focus on getting surplus food to people who need it. The forum is part of the EU-funded FoodCLIC project.
At the meeting, Sofia University, the Fantastico Group and the Bulgarian Food Bank will announce they are joining the "Climate City Contract". They are pledging to make Sofia's climate goals part of their daily work and a top priority.
The Food Bank will show how its models work in practice, and participants will talk about ways to get science, policy and practical work moving together. Guests include officials from national and local government, academics and non-profit groups. Representatives of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) have also been invited.
The forum will also open a new hall for climate and science diplomacy. Lunch will be a themed menu with a zero carbon footprint.
