Haskovo council is the lead partner in the ReGreen project and will hold a launch meeting on Wednesday, 21 October, at 10:00. It will take place in the conference hall of the Centralis hotel at 6 Vasil Drumev Street, the council said.
The project's full name is "Protecting and restoring greenery in forests and urban areas". It is funded under the Interreg VI-A Greece – Bulgaria cross-border cooperation programme, and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the national funds of the two countries in the programme.
Representatives of the programme's Managing Authority and Joint Secretariat, official guests and partner organisations will welcome the audience. The main goals, target groups and activities of ReGreen will then be presented. The agenda also includes a presentation of the activities and a discussion of specific cases from the work on the project.
The council says the main goal is to make green infrastructure in and around the city more sustainable. To do that, the project will build up skills, tools and cooperation so that partners can work together on nature-friendly solutions. It combines technology, digital decision-support systems and the experience of environmental experts to plan, manage and protect biodiversity better.
The project will set up a cross-border network of environmental experts to work on shared environmental problems. Young people and the public will take an active part in protecting biodiversity and in making decisions, and the region will share more knowledge and form more partnerships.
In selected areas, ReGreen will develop and test pilot practices, introduce climate-neutral and digital solutions, and use data-based methods to restore green spaces. Details about the project and the meeting programme are on the council's website.
