Staff from the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IARA) will protest in Burgas on 5 October from 12:00. The group wants the agency to stay an independent body, the „Podkrepa“ regional union said.
In a statement on 1 October, the „Podkrepa“ labor confederation asked agriculture minister Plamen Abrovski to resign. This follows the minister's comments on Bulgarian National Radio on 28 September 2026 about a possible merger between IARA and the Executive Agency for Forests (IAG).
Minister Plamen Abrovski made a statement on 10 September. He said that if IARA is restructured and joined with another body, control over the Black Sea, the Danube, and the rest of Bulgaria will increase. He said the goal is to make the general administration more efficient without affecting specialized control work. The minister noted that early data shows about 26 staff members might be cut from IARA's general administration, but the control side will remain.
Staff also plan to protest in Kardzhali on 7 October in front of the regional administration building.
