Bulgaria sold 150 million euros of new domestic debt at auction yesterday, the finance ministry says.
It offered five-year government bonds from issue No. BG 20 301 26 119, due January 28, 2031, with an annual coupon of 2.75%.
Investors bid for 173.4 million euros, 1.16 times the amount on offer. The average yield came in at 4.02%, 67 basis points above comparable German bonds.
This was the 12th sale of new domestic debt this year. Bulgaria has now raised 1.755 billion euros in new domestic debt since the start of 2026, on top of 2.5 billion euros in bonds sold on international markets earlier this year.
Under this year's budget law, Bulgaria can take on up to 10.1 billion euros of new debt in 2026. That includes a loan of up to 3.261 billion euros under the EU's SAFE scheme ("Security Action for Europe"), which helps pay for the defence industry.
By the end of the year, government debt is expected to hit 37.7 billion euros, or 30.1% of GDP.
Earlier this month, finance minister Galab Donev told reporters Bulgaria will most likely go back to international capital markets once more before the year is out.
