One person died and another was hurt in fires across Bulgaria over the past 24 hours, the Fire Safety and Population Protection Directorate at the Interior Ministry said.

Firefighters put out 43 fires. In 15 of them there was direct damage to property: nine homes, one industrial building, three vehicles and other sites.

The other 28 fires caused no damage. Most of them, 11, were in waste, 10 in dry grass, forest litter and bushes, and two in stubble fields. The rest were of other types.

Crews responded to 93 reports of incidents, but six of the calls turned out to be false alarms. Firefighters also carried out 44 rescue and assistance jobs, including help after road crashes, technical help and removal of dangerous objects.

A few days ago in Pleven, a 71-year-old man died in a fire in his own flat.
