The United Arab Emirates ambassador to Bulgaria, Abdulrahman Ahmed Sultan Essa Al Jaber, and interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev discussed cooperation against organised and cross-border crime, the Interior Ministry said. They met at the Interior Ministry Academy.

Academy rector chief commissioner Ilin Savov and deputy rector commissioner Milorad Yordanov welcomed the guests. Both joined the talks, as did deputy minister Kaloyan Kaloyanov.

The two sides also covered cybercrime and modern threats to public safety. They talked about ties between the Interior Ministry Academy and the police academies in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The idea includes sharing professional experience, joint training and research projects, and using modern technology to train police officers.

A few days ago, Demerdzhiev also met Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, a representative of the Secretariat of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network). The network works under the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

"Our goal is for international anti-corruption standards to turn into real results – effective investigations, tracing criminal money flows and cutting the chances to hide illegal assets," the minister said of the meeting with her.
