The Social Assistance Agency (SAA) is organising a forum in Plovdiv on digital aggression and the online safety of young people, the agency said. The Academy for National and Information Security in the city is helping and will host the event in its conference hall.

The topic is "Digital aggression and the cyber safety of the young generation: responsibilities and challenges for families, schools and institutions".

The forum is part of a two-day SAA programme under the project "Modernising the social protection systems in the Social Assistance Agency". The idea came from the Regional Social Assistance Directorate in Plovdiv. The SAA says the programme will let specialists share professional experience and good practice, and help institutions and the academic community work more closely together.

SAA executive director Ana Ananieva will open the forum. Those taking part include people from the social system and the academic community, as well as the executive, judicial and local authorities.

Lectures will be given by Assoc. Prof. Dr Plamen Slavov, deputy culture minister. Assoc. Prof. Dr Milorad Yordanov, deputy rector of the Interior Ministry Academy. And Dr Chavdar Groshev, deputy district prosecutor at the District Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv, who also teaches at the Academy for National and Information Security.

The talks will cover child protection and how institutions and professional bodies can work together on violence, aggressive behaviour and other risky situations, including online. Participants will also discuss better coordination and approaches that fit children's needs and the specifics of each local and regional area.

At a discussion in September, Ana Ananieva said social legislation now needs a completely fresh rethink.
