Bulgaria's 112 emergency service received 34,469 regular calls between 7:00 am on 9 October and 7:00 am on 16 October. That is 17.8% more than in the same period last year.
Strong winds on 14 October prompted 75 calls in the Stara Zagora and Sliven regions, 42 from Stara Zagora and 33 from Sliven. No one was hurt.
Trees fell, branches broke or were left hanging, billboards were torn down and power lines were damaged. A lorry trailer overturned on the Sub-Balkan road at the turn-off for Tvarditsa. Near the Maglizh junction, a minibus left the road and overturned in a ditch.
Emergency medical centres received 13,832 calls. There were 2,340 road incidents, 2,354 fires and 14 disasters. Callers reported 505 breakdowns and accidents, four cases involving hazardous substances and five household or industrial incidents.
Crimes against people were reported 8,053 times and crimes against property 875 times. There were 12 reports of illegal migrants and refugees, 24 of risky driving and street racing, and 341 of lost people or people in distress. Another 6,059 calls were passed to municipalities to deal with.
The 112 service said the incident figures are based on information from citizens, and one event can prompt two or more calls.
In nine air ambulance missions, patients in a serious condition received timely specialist treatment. There were 15 cross-border calls that needed police, fire crews and emergency medical help. They concerned the Czech Republic and Romania, and a case of domestic violence against a Bulgarian woman in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Two calls came in through eCall, one for a car crash in Byala Slatina and one for a crash on the Trakia motorway heading towards Sofia. Emergency teams were sent in both cases.
eCall is an emergency call to 112 that passengers make by hand, or that a car's sensors make automatically in a crash. The car must have an eCall device. The in-car device sends a minimal set of data: the exact place of the crash, the direction of travel, details of the car and the number of passengers. The system also opens a voice link with a 112 operator, which lets emergency crews react quickly, the service explained.
Between 18 and 25 September, 112 received 37,090 regular calls, 5.7% more than in the same period of 2025.
