A team from the 10th Mechanized Battalion of the Land Forces has neutralized four unexploded munitions discovered during excavation work near the "Baba Vida" fortress in the city of Vidin.
The found objects were in a heavily corroded state and were destroyed directly on-site in strict compliance with all prescribed safety measures. Information regarding the operation was published on the agency's official Facebook page.
The list of neutralized munitions includes:
- one 155-mm artillery shell with a fuse;
- one 300-mm diameter cannonball;
- two 70-mm diameter cannonballs.
During the months of July and August, cases of finding and neutralizing unexploded ordnance were observed in the area of the "Baba Vida" city beach due to the low water level of the Danube River. A similar situation was recorded in early September, when a heavily corroded 122-mm artillery shell was neutralized during excavation activities near the fortress.
