The government has approved 263,000 euros for the Rila Monastery — the money will go toward repairs, restoration and a new fire alarm system at the monastery. The sum is part of the Council of Ministers' budget for 2026 and is earmarked for the Bulgarian Orthodox Church – Bulgarian Patriarchate, the government's information service announced.
Officials from the cabinet explained that the monastery holds great spiritual, cultural and national significance. The renovation will allow many Orthodox Christians from Bulgaria and abroad to visit it. They will be able to fully enjoy it — one of the most beautiful monasteries in the country.
At the end of July, the Rila Monastery once again raised another issue — the deplorable state of the municipal road leading to the Kirilova Polyana area. That is where the path to the grave of St. John of Rila begins, and the poor condition of the road continues to cause problems.
