Bulgaria's cabinet has approved 8,692,000 euros in extra spending for the energy ministry's 2026 budget, the government press office said. The money covers the final indexing payment and closes out the contract for the first phase of the National Repository for Radioactive Waste.
The contract was awarded by the state enterprise Radioactive Waste. The payment follows a cabinet decision from 15 January 2026 and finally ends the contractual work on phase 1.
In a second decision, the cabinet gave the energy ministry a further 23,266,118 euros from the Modernisation Fund. This will pay for project stages already completed.
The money was already set aside in the 2026 central budget, so it adds no new cost for the state. The government says this means funding and work on Modernisation Fund projects will continue without a break.
