Every school in Bulgaria will get a free first aid poster, "I Help Because I Know" ("Помагам, защото знам"). The publishing group Prosveta is giving it as a gift, the publisher said. The posters are already on their way.

Prosveta made the poster with the association Academy First Aid. It wants pupils to learn skills that can save a life.

The first aid rules come with colour illustrations and simple explanations. The poster shows what to do in different emergencies, when to ask an adult for help and when to call the emergency number 112. Teachers can use it in "Man and Nature" and "Biology and Health Education" classes, and in other lessons on health and safety.

The publisher says pupils should know what to do when a person faints, gets a burn or heavy bleeding, or chokes. A quick and correct response can save a life. It suggests hanging the poster in a visible place, in the classroom or the school corridor, to remind children how to act in a crisis.

Kina Andreeva, editor-in-chief at Prosveta, says children learn at school how to act, including when someone needs first aid. To turn that knowledge into skills, they need to go over it again and again, so the idea is to keep the information in front of pupils' eyes.

"That way they will remember it more easily and will be better prepared to react correctly when needed," Andreeva said.
