Svilengrad council has put up outdoor tables with boards for chess, draughts, backgammon and Ludo ("Don't Get Angry, Man"), the council said. Two now stand in the central pedestrian area of Bulgaria Boulevard. The third will go in Sukha Reka park, near the chess club.
The three tables cost 6,100 euros from the council budget. The money comes from funds earmarked for the local commission for combating anti-social behaviour among minors. The tables are for children and adults and stand in public places in the town's parks and streets.
Each table measures 190 by 148 by 74 cm and is made of reinforced concrete. The tops and legs have a mosaic finish, and the seats are wooden. The game boards are set in polished tops, made with coloured marble and granite pebbles.
The council says the tables are practical, durable and attractive. It wants to give people of all ages more ways to meet, play and spend time outdoors. It expects the tables to draw chess fans.
Last year the council put table tennis tables in Mladezhki park.
