Polling station commissions will stamp the paper receipts printed by voting machines in the presidential election. The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided this at a meeting on 20 October.

The CEC changed its guidelines for the commissions in the vote for president and vice president. It adopted the guidelines for the coming election on 13 October 2026.

Until now, voters dropped the folded receipt into the machine-vote receipt box themselves. They then returned the smart card marked "Voter", signed the voter list, took their ID and left the polling room.

Under the new rule, voters first check that the receipt shows their choice. They fold it with the text facing inward and hand it to a commission member, who stamps it and gives it back.

Machine voting will take place at 9,373 polling stations in Bulgaria, and 2,249 of them will have two machines. Abroad, there are 613 polling stations: 242 with one machine and 24 with two.

There will be 11,622 voting machines in total on election day.
