Prime minister Rumen Radev says he expects yesterday's detention of the Sungurlare mayor to be only the start of unravelling a scheme. He spoke at the start of today's cabinet meeting.

Radev said the government will not stop until law enforcement reaches the top of the oligarchic pyramid. Sungurlare is hardly the centre of corruption, he added, but yesterday's detention of its mayor is a start.

The prime minister said worthy and brave Bulgarian prosecutors at district level, who have finally emerged, have sided with justice and helped get everyone involved to talk. Efforts by the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the Interior Ministry to expose anything of substance crashed in the prosecutor's office, at both central and regional level, Radev told the cabinet. Yesterday that changed.

Radev accused Peevski and Borisov of returning to their familiar, arrogant way of speaking and acting. He said the two men are very nervous because they can no longer put together coalitions with partners hungry for power and ready for grotesque incestuous unions. The prime minister believes they cannot dictate to the government and are losing control of the money flows. In his words, their lieutenants no longer decide public procurement contracts, and the front men will find it harder to hide what was seized. Radev expects the two to become even more nervous.

The prime minister also said that, according to the well-known maxim, when there is no justice or retribution for what was seized, it leads to a sense of impunity and loss of self-restraint.

When the government took office, Radev himself gave a very clear sign that the mistakes of others would not be allowed and that those in power would not exceed their rights. Radev promised that the government will respect the separation of powers and act fully within the law.
