Institutions are doing everything possible to work with partner agencies abroad and to uncover businesses, assets, properties and activities held by proxies. That's what President Rumen Radev told reporters at the "Slivnitsa" training center, where military demonstrations were held.

"It's happening slowly, it's happening with difficulty, but you can see it's already starting to yield results," Radev said. According to him, many things are only now beginning to be untangled, and he hopes the pace will pick up going forward. "We're working with the proxies, because these people have worked through proxies," the president explained, adding that he expects it will soon become clear exactly what these people are involved in and how significant public funds passed through them.

Asked whether the proxies are linked to party structures, Radev said that for the most part, they are not.

Asked about Bulgaria's ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, the president confirmed that he was indeed the one who signed off on his appointment to the post. Radev explained that, as a rule, the fathers of diplomats sent abroad are not vetted.

"Our ambassador to the UAE was serving on an expired mandate. At that time we had just received an invitation from the president of the UAE for me to visit. We had ambitions to hold a major business forum and bring Bulgarian businesses there, because that's important. The ambassador, whose mandate had expired, was already in Sofia at the time. He told me such a business forum couldn't happen, because according to the customary protocol in that country, there first needs to be a personal meeting between me and the president, and only after trust is established can a business forum take place at the next stage. I asked which Bulgarian diplomatic representatives were working in that country. The consul at the time was also in Bulgaria. I called him in and gave him the task: could he organize a business forum, since the ambassador said he couldn't. He took it on and managed to organize a truly major, highly successful business forum. Bulgarian companies signed contracts worth millions of euros at that forum. And yes, it was with my signature that he was appointed ambassador," Rumen Radev recounted.

BTA recalls: at a government briefing, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev commented on Delyan Peevski's flights. He noted that the company that paid for them and provided the plane belongs to the father of the UAE ambassador.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Ivan Yordanov met with Deputy Minister Hristo Polendakov, on instructions from Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova, since she is in New York attending the 81st regular session of the UN General Assembly.
