MPs on parliament's legal affairs committee have backed changes to the law on the commercial register and the register of non-profit legal entities at second reading. The aim is to clear a backlog of annual declarations that have waited years to be processed.

The head of the Registry Agency will be able to hire up to 30 registration officers. They will work on contracts of up to one year, and the director will have this power for up to two years after the law takes effect.

The changes also cut the paperwork applicants have to file. Yanka Tyankova from the "Progressive Bulgaria" group and a group of other MPs put forward the bill.
