Firefighters put out 183 fires across Bulgaria in the past 24 hours and two people were hurt, the interior ministry's fire safety department says. Crews answered 283 emergency calls in total.

22 of the fires caused damage: six in homes, seven in vehicles, one in a forest, one on farmland, two in outdoor structures and five of other kinds. The other 161 fires caused no damage. Of those, 99 broke out in dry grass, forest ground cover and bushes, and 47 in rubbish. The rest were three in crop stubble, three in cookers and chimneys, and nine from other causes.

Firefighters also took part in 84 rescue and support operations: seven after road crashes, two involving hazardous substances and 73 to give technical help. Fire services also logged 16 false alarms.
