Prosecutors in Haskovo have charged a 21-year-old man with the murder of another man of the same age, the state prosecution service said. The victim's body was found on 15 October in the Harmanliyska river in Harmanli. The suspect can be held for up to 72 hours.
Prosecutors will ask the court to keep him in custody.
The man, from the village of Chernogorovo, was reported missing on 13 October. He lived in the villa zone of Harmanli.
The Haskovo regional police directorate press office says officers found that the two men were seen together the day before the missing man was put on the nationwide wanted list. They were walking near the "Prikazkite" complex outside Harmanli.
The investigation shows that the suspect went home alone and tried to sell the missing man's phone.
The search of the area ended when the body was found in the water. The man's hands were tied behind his back. According to the forensic doctor, he was strangled before he was thrown into the river.
Officers from the Haskovo regional police directorate and the National Police Directorate in Sofia, divers and firefighters took part in the search.
In a separate murder case in Dimitrovgrad, which happened on the night of 12 to 13 October, the regional court yesterday kept a 32-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son in custody. They are charged with the premeditated murder of a 67-year-old man.
