Bulgaria's National Social Security Institute (NOI) has automatically recalculated 356,079 pensions since 1 April 2026. The figure for 2025 was 363,701, or 7,622 more, the institute says in its latest bulletin. The recalculation reflects extra years of insurance that people have earned.
This year NOI recalculated 220,590 pensions for insurance record and age, down from 234,085 in 2025. That is 13,495 fewer, a fall of about 5.8%.
Disability pensions due to general illness went the other way. NOI recalculated 134,620 of them, against 128,687 a year earlier, or 5,933 more. Their share of all recalculated pensions has risen for three years in a row: 33% in 2024, 35% in 2025 and 37.8% in 2026.
For 79,781 people, NOI recalculated their pension automatically for the first time.
NOI says pensions for insurance record and age rose by an average of €9.03 a month. In 2025 the rise was €8.36 (16.36 leva). For disability due to general illness, the rise is €5.12, against €4.60 (9 leva) a year earlier.
Pensions for disability due to work accidents and occupational disease rose by an average of €9.04, against €6.71 (13.12 leva) in 2025.
NOI based the recalculation on data from employers and self-insured people for the period up to 31 December 2025. By 1 March 2026, this data was already in NOI's information system and registers.
