An International Monetary Fund team led by Fabian Bornhorst arrives in Sofia from 28 September to 2 October. The fund's senior regional representative for central, eastern and southeastern Europe, Carlos Mulas Granados, announced the visit, according to the IMF press office.

During the trip, the team will meet officials from the government, the central bank and business. The main focus will be how Bulgaria's economy and public finances stand right now.

The fund says the visit is part of its regular contact with member states whose economies it tracks.

Bulgaria's next Article IV consultation is expected in early 2027, the IMF said.

The fund's last regular mission to Bulgaria ran from 10 to 23 September 2025 and was also part of the Article IV consultations.
