The individuals who prepared the medical expertise in the case of the drug trafficker's pardon could face criminal liability if it is proven that it contains incorrect medical data. Minister of Justice Nikolay Naydenov emphasized that the case will be investigated. According to him, although the medical commission established that, at least on paper, the individual's condition is extremely severe, the question remains whether these documents truly reflect the real situation. Naydenov described the scandal as "artificial" and linked it to the pre-election atmosphere, adding that the expertise was conducted in 2022 by decision of the then-minister. "A pre-trial proceeding for an alleged crime is initiated when there is sufficient data and a legal basis. I believe these are present," he stated, specifying that he will submit all available information held by the Ministry of Justice, which has already been requested and provided to Parliament.

Regarding the leaked and published expert reports involving children's personal data, the minister pointed out that there are institutions whose mandate includes monitoring the leakage of such information. They must establish any violations and impose the appropriate sanctions. Regarding the prosecutor's office press conference last week, Naydenov noted that the institution has long been criticized, quite reasonably, for operating in secrecy and failing to provide information on pre-trial proceedings. "Well, they did it now—perhaps not in the most appropriate way, but I would not criticize them for that given the seriousness of the information disclosed," he shared.

During the media program "Wake Up," Minister Nikolay Naydenov described the "Petrohan" case as one of the greatest crimes not only of the current year but likely of the entire decade. Since the perpetrator is already known, it remains to be clarified who is behind this organization, who financed it, and whether other crimes are hidden behind this act. "The answers, in my opinion, are yet to come," the Minister of Justice emphasized.

According to the disclosed data, the case is extremely grave, as it involves both charges of pedophilia and charges related to murder—which the minister identified as the most severe crime, as it involves the taking of a human life.
