Education minister Prof Georgi Valchev will hand out the Konstantin Velichkov awards to teachers today for their work in education, the ministry's press office said. The ceremony starts at 12:00 in the Rotunda on the fifth floor of the ministry.
Today, 1 November, is National Revivalists' Day, which honours Bulgaria's national awakeners. The ministry gives the awards every year.
There are awards in five categories. They are for working with gifted students, for success in tackling problem behaviour, and for results in bringing children and students into the school system and keeping them there. There are also awards for helping students develop their skills in science, technology, the arts, sport, and global, civic and health education. The last category is for teaching leadership skills.
In 2025, 10 Bulgarian teachers received the award. The ceremony took place on the eve of National Revivalists' Day, and the then minister, Krasimir Valchev, handed out the awards.
He said Bulgaria is a nation of awakeners, who wanted their children to be learned and to draw on education and enlightenment. He said anyone can be an awakener when they teach children values, and that teachers should be supported every day.
"We rely most of all on Bulgarian teachers to deal with the big challenges and to let our children live in a better, harmonious and prosperous society," Krasimir Valchev said at the time.
