Pink lights will shine on the Bell Tower in Yamacha park and on the Ivan Dimov theatre in Haskovo on 23, 24 and 25 October. The lighting is part of the breast cancer prevention campaign "In Pink for HER", the group Angels in Pink said.
October is breast cancer awareness month around the world. Haskovo council is taking part again this year. Besides the Bell Tower, a pink ribbon will hang on its offices on Obshtinski Square. The theatre team is a new partner in the campaign.
Angels in Pink asks everyone close to people with the disease, and their families, to wear pink on all three days, take a photo and post it on social media with the caption "In Pink for HER". The group says every woman should take time for herself and have a check-up.
It also called on owners of offices, shops, cafés, restaurants and beauty salons to "decorate with pink accessories or light up in pink, so that together we can give hope to everyone".
More than a third of cancer cases can be prevented if the main risk factors are cut or avoided, according to World Health Organization data. The WHO advises people to drink less alcohol, give up smoking, keep a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly.
