The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will file two separate requests for interior minister Ivan Demerdzhiev to answer questions in parliament, party leader Delyan Peevski said in a statement released by the MRF press office.

The first request concerns a pre-trial case in which Demerdzhiev has been charged over an annex to a contract for producing ID documents. It also covers companies owned or controlled by the minister and his wife.

Peevski claims that through these companies, Demerdzhiev and his wife own 411 properties worth about 16.3 million levs, including 7 apartments. More than 400 of the properties are farmland in the Plovdiv region. Peevski said his party has reported the properties to prosecutors but nothing has happened, and he believes the silence comes from either political cover or fear.

The second request asks for data on wrongdoing in public contracts for installing guardrails. The MRF wants to know whether money paid out under those contracts went to fund Peevski's own flights. MPs will also ask how much the flights cost, how they were invoiced, who paid for them, and what is known about people linked to them.

"The whole truth about the guardrails! Who did what with whom, who stole and who abused their position," Peevski wrote. He said the truth about his own flights is clear and plain.

Peevski said the two hearings aim to bring full openness and lay out the facts. Demerdzhiev has promised answers will come soon, he added, and in private the minister has talked about corruption schemes "at the top of the PP elite." The question, Peevski said, is whether the interior minister will act on the reports "or stay a harmless paper tiger."

Days earlier, Demerdzhiev filed a report with the tax agency, asking it to check Peevski's large expenses. Peevski responded on Facebook, saying claims linking him to guardrail companies are a lie.
