GERB leader Boyko Borisov met three MEPs today to discuss tension in the Black Sea and drone attacks on merchant ships, he said on Facebook.

The visitors are Angelika Winzig of Austria, Sven Simon of Germany and Jacek Protas of Poland. They are in Bulgaria at the invitation of MEPs Andrey Novakov and Emil Radev.

Borisov said drones are no longer just a regional problem but a direct threat to national and European security. "The Black Sea is no place for geopolitical fence-sitting," he said.

He called on the government to take a clear stand. In his view, the cabinet owes far more than silence, hesitation and action after the latest incident, and having no political position does not protect the national interest. "Bulgaria must be an active player in shaping European security policy, not a passive observer," he said.

Borisov called GERB's position clear and consistent: Bulgaria is part of the EU and NATO, and Black Sea security is protected by joint action. He said the party has no doubt that Bulgaria belongs in a strong Europe, with a strong NATO and a clear defence of the national interest.
