The Sofia Commodity Exchange (SCE) says in its weekly review that grain prices were mixed on world markets, while raw sugar in New York hit its highest price in 19 months.

SCE experts say sugar stood out most. The sharp rise began on Friday, when raw sugar for March delivery in New York gained 4.5%. On Wednesday the price reached $459 a tonne, then fell to about $444. In London, white sugar for December delivery costs about $548 a tonne, after rising by more than 4% at the end of last week.

Wheat had an unsteady week, the experts say. On Tuesday the December contract in Chicago traded above $259 a tonne, and on Wednesday at about $252. On Euronext, a tonne of wheat cost about €247.50 on Tuesday and €244.25 on Wednesday, or about $273. Funds on Euronext cut their net long positions in wheat.

The US Department of Agriculture lowered its rating of corn crops in good and excellent condition by more than expected. The harvest is running behind. In Chicago, corn was at about $200 a tonne on Tuesday, but part of the gain was lost, and the December contract closed the week at about $196.

On Euronext, corn for November delivery cost €264.25 a tonne at the end of September, about €277 on Tuesday and €276 (about $308) on Wednesday.

A week ago, deals at the SCE for bread wheat were struck at €198 a tonne, while feed wheat had a "buy" quote of €192 a tonne.

Canned foods on offer include Apetit pâté at €2.56 a kilogram, green beans at €0.75, gyuvech at €0.95, paprikash at €0.72, green peas at €1.94, Strawberry jam at €3.25 and Shipka marmalade at €3.71 a kilogram.

In the "Industrial goods" sub-round this week, deals were made for firewood at €90 a cubic metre, pellets at €465 a tonne and Donbas coal at €500 a tonne.

Propane-butane gas trades between €491.67 and €492 per 1,000 litres. A95H petrol is between €1,317 and €1,375, E5 diesel is €1,493.44, and B6 diesel is between €1,506.60 and €1,566.67 per 1,000 litres.
