Svilengrad councillors have changed the budget to pay for a new bike lane, and under the same project handed over council property for someone to manage free of charge. They made the decisions at the council's 54th regular meeting.

Councillors added four new items, bringing the agenda to 39 points. These cover extra money from the town budget, a short-term loan deal and a change to a development plan, with two of the items tied to the bike lane project.

One item was pulled from the agenda: the extraordinary shareholders' meeting of "Svilengrad – Gas" AD. The council will decide on that at its next meeting instead.

The "Hristo Stavrev" wrestling club will rent part of a privately owned council property, with no tender, to use for training. Rent is set at 1 euro a month for five years.

Councillors also approved money for the "Golden Girls" dance sports club to travel to a competition abroad. The club's head, Lyudmila Spataru, had asked for the funds.

Parents and coaches handed in a petition asking to keep training conditions unchanged for children at the "Al. Fotev" gymnastics club in Svilengrad, and councillors discussed it at the meeting.

Kiril Tarpov, a councillor from the "Yes, Bulgaria" group, proposed turning the former "Hristo Popmarkov" primary school building and the land next to it into a centre for after-school clubs, creative work, learning, sport and support for children and students in the town.

Councillors approved a donation of land plots between "Burdenisstroy – 97" OOD and Svilengrad council, along with the donation agreement. In separate votes, they renewed leases on council housing and decided how the town's representative should vote at the general meeting of the Haskovo Water and Sewage Association.

Councillors congratulated Svilengrad's mayor on being named "Mayor of the Year" for 2026 in the "Urban environment" category. He said the award recognised the work of the whole town administration.
