The Haskovo regional environment inspectorate (RIOSV) says it has dealt with all 19 reports made in September to its green hotline on environmental violations in Haskovo and Kardzhali provinces, according to its monthly report.
Two reports were about the Maritsa 3 power plant in Dimitrovgrad. In both cases the inspectorate asked the plant to cut its output of sulphur dioxide, and the plant did so. RIOSV has ordered the cuts to stay in place until sulphur dioxide levels in the air stay low.
A factory in Kardzhali received instructions from RIOSV after a report of a sharp, choking smell.
Eleven reports were about birds and animals in distress. Some of the animals were sent for treatment to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora. In August, most reports were about injured or helpless birds, and 16 of them were about storks.
In the village of Zhenda, in Chernoochene municipality, a bear destroyed three beehives. The process to pay the owner compensation has already begun.
