The fire broke out on 4 October and crossed into Greece that evening. Helicopters also helped fight it, and a partial state of emergency was declared. Fire service and forestry crews stayed on site overnight. Today, crews with 7 fire engines and foresters are at the scene, watching the area and keeping it under control.
The partial state of emergency has not yet been lifted. Nikolay Panayotov, secretary of Ivaylovgrad municipality, told BTA it will end once the fire service gives its official view that the fire is under control. Forecasts say it should be lifted by the end of today.
