Ten crews from the regional fire service are battling a fire between the villages of Kolarovo and Dositeevo near Harmanli, the Haskovo regional administration says. The fire broke out around noon and is spreading from Kolarovo toward Dositeevo.
Flames have torn through dry grass and bushes, mixed forest and vineyards. Firefighters are using a bulldozer to cut firebreaks and stop the fire spreading, while Harmanli council has sent a water tanker. Volunteers from the Harmanli volunteer fire unit have also joined in.
Strong winds keep changing conditions fast, but officials say nearby villages are not in danger for now.
In September, fire crews in the Haskovo region put out 141 fires, 23 of which caused damage. No one was hurt. Three of the fires that month broke out in forests and two in fields. The regional fire service posts its monthly report on the Haskovo police website.
