Police ran 119 special operations across Bulgaria against crimes that violate voting rights between 28 September and 13 October, the Interior Ministry said.
Officers drew up 373 warning notices under Article 65 of the Interior Ministry Act.
The ministry's open hotline received 34 reports of election law violations, 31 of them about vote buying. Four pre-trial cases have been opened: one fast-track and three under the general procedure.
The Sofia police directorate and regional directorates carry out the operations under an approved plan. Teams from the Gendarmerie, Special Operations and Counter-Terrorism Directorate also take part. The aim is to uncover and stop criminal activity under Articles 167 to 169g of the Criminal Code, whether planned or already under way, and to find election law violations.
An operational headquarters at the Interior Ministry coordinates preparations for the presidential and vice-presidential elections on 25 October. Its tasks are to counter crimes against voting rights, keep public order and ensure fire safety. The headquarters works to a set plan and stays in constant contact with the Central Election Commission, the prosecutor's office, the State Agency for National Security and other institutions.
Information groups set up in the main and regional Interior Ministry directorates pull together data on the voting process.
There are 27 presidential and vice-presidential candidate pairs, Central Election Commission spokeswoman Stoyanka Balova said at a briefing in late September. They were put forward by 20 initiative committees and seven parties.
