Bulgaria's agriculture ministry is starting talks to set up local advisory councils for the fruit and vegetable, and livestock sectors, the ministry's press office says. The first working meetings with farmers start today.

At the meetings, the ministry will explain how it sees these councils working. The idea is for the ministry to talk directly to farmers on the ground, using the councils to discuss local problems and share good practice.

Farmers will also get expert and institutional help with issues facing the two sectors.

The meetings will run in each municipality on a schedule set in advance. Regional agriculture directorates will announce the dates, times and venues. The talks will run until the end of October 2026.

At the same time, the clock is ticking on the farmers' register. By Wednesday, 30 September 2026, farmers must update their data for the 2025/2026 farming year. New farmers must also register by that date.

Re-registration for the 2026/2027 farming year starts on Thursday, 1 October 2026. Farmers can file documents up to the deadline for area and livestock support applications under the 2027 campaign.
