Boyko Atanasov, an investigator in the Investigation Department of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, has submitted his candidacy for the election of members to the Supreme Judicial Council from the investigators' quota. The news was announced by the SJC.

The institution reported that according to Atanasov himself, his work as an independent magistrate morally obligates him to participate in this procedure. He further stated that he meets all legal requirements for the position, arguing that he has repeatedly demonstrated high professional and moral standards.

The candidate expressed his readiness to put his accumulated professional and life experience at the service of the judicial system — to promote its development and independence, as well as to raise the moral standards within the Supreme Judicial Council.

Regarding his career, the SJC clarified that from 2002 to 2009, Atanasov served as an investigator in the Sofia Investigation Service. Following its structural reorganization, he continued working as an investigator, but within the Investigation Department of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office — a position he currently holds.

BTA will monitor the entire process of electing the new composition of the SJC — including representatives from the National Assembly quota, as well as those from the judges, prosecutors, and investigators.
