People in the village of Borislavtsi, in Madzharovo municipality, have been told not to drink tap water because it contains too much natural uranium, the Regional Health Inspectorate in Haskovo said on its website.
Tests on the water supply found 32.1 micrograms of uranium per litre, above the legal limit of 30 micrograms. The inspectorate has ordered the water company to bring in clean drinking water by tanker and has told the relevant authorities.
This is not the first time the village has had this problem. Uranium levels first went above the limit at the end of 2023, triggering the first ban. That ban was lifted on 16 June last year once levels dropped back to normal.
