Bulgaria's anti-corruption commission will get an extra €3,107,700 in its 2026 budget. The Council of Ministers approved the spending, the government press office said.
The money is for the new powers the commission received under the law on countering corruption among people in public office. The decision says the 2026 state budget law did not provide funding for them.
The funds will pay for a specialist administrative team, for investigative and inquiry work, and for sharing information and cooperating at national and European level.
The law came into force on 5 June 2026. The new commission took office on 3 August 2026, headed by Plamen Todorov. Its other members are Pavel Gaydarov, Mariana Shoteva and Milen Shopov.
The commission should have five members, but it works with four because the Supreme Court of Cassation did not pick a candidate from its quota.
Unofficial figures suggest the new commission will inherit between 300 and 400 old pre-trial cases from the previous one, chairman Plamen Todorov said.
