The Border Guards team from the Hristo Botev vocational school in Svilengrad won the national school tournament in military-applied sports, "Thracian Winner". The six students, who represented Svilengrad and Haskovo region, were welcomed today by Mayor Anastas Karchev, an architect.
The contest included tests in sport, history and military-patriotic education. The students showed good fitness and knowledge, speed, stamina, quick thinking and teamwork. The team's coach also received special praise for how she prepared them.
The mayor congratulated the boys and girls on their win. He said it proves the hard work and talent of Svilengrad's young people, and shows how much sport and active youth involvement matter.
Lt Col Petar Petkov, head of the Haskovo Military District, thanked the mayor and the school's head, Atanaska Mihaylova. He said their support let the team take part in the contest.
Lt Col Petkov gave the mayor and the head collages of photos from the tournament. The champions and their coach received gifts.
