Parents want schools to focus on skills and how to use knowledge, rather than just memorising facts, says ombudsman Velislava Delcheva. These complaints reached her office and were shared during a discussion titled «Vision: Education that lets Bulgaria lead, not catch up». The event took place at the National Assembly and was led by Nikolay Denkov, head of the «We Continue the Change» group.
Parents said that having more schoolwork does not mean better learning. Delcheva said children need time to read, be creative, sleep, rest, and talk to others to grow well.
The ombudsman added that the school system must adapt to AI. She said technology should be a tool that does not replace a student's own work or their ability to make their own choices.
During the debate, Delcheva called for more support for teachers. She said the state should cut their paperwork, give them better training, and use modern ways to teach. Delcheva also said it is important for schools and families to stay close.
"Education in Bulgaria should not catch up, but should create the future of Bulgaria," Delcheva said.
