More than 750,000 people can now check their health records through the "eZdrave" mobile app, according to Information Services, the company that runs the system. Of those, 485,000 are active users, while the rest are linked profiles that let parents track their children's health data up to age 18.
The number of app users has grown by 50% over the past six months. The company says this points to growing trust in online health services and wider use of the National Health Information System.
The app shows records held in the system, including check-ups, e-prescriptions, referrals, lab tests and vaccinations. Women aged 31 to 50 use it most.
In August, the app added a feature letting people report suspected illegal practices online. Since then, 1,760 reports of suspected violations have come in, and inspectors at the National Health Insurance Fund have opened 560 checks as a result.
Most reports concern hospitals and clinics in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and Burgas, and deal with check-ups, referral results and hospital admissions.
A new "dental treatment" section is due to launch this month. It will show dental check-ups, treatments and procedures, as well as the state of a patient's teeth.
To activate the app, users need a qualified or cloud-based electronic signature. They can also sign up in person at Information Services offices, regional health inspectorates and district health insurance offices. Information Services is part of the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation.
