The prosecutors' panel of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has decided to propose Magdalena Lazarova-Prodanova as acting prosecutor general, after Vanya Stefanova's term ended on 22 October. The panel took the decision at its meeting today.
Lazarova is a deputy prosecutor general and the next most senior. The SJC plenary will vote on the proposal, but only if she agrees.
Stefanova took over in April from Borislav Sarafov. Under the Judiciary Act, one person can serve as acting head of the Supreme Administrative Court, the Supreme Court of Cassation or the prosecutor general's office for no more than six months.
