Truck drivers have blocked the Kapıkule-Kapitan Andreevo and Hamzabeyli-Lesovo border crossings for traffic leaving Turkey, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has warned.
The crossings are expected to close completely to heavy trucks tomorrow, 29 October, in both directions. The ministry said cars and buses should not be affected.
The background: Peev and Turkish minister discuss truck queues at Kapitan Andreevo
On 16 October, transport and communications minister Georgi Peev met hauliers and institutions to ease traffic at Kapitan Andreevo. Today, because of the trucks piled up at the border, he held urgent talks with his Turkish counterpart, Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
The ministry's press office said the two discussed how to find a quick solution and get traffic at the crossing back to normal.
The Foreign Ministry advises Bulgarians to use other routes if they can, and to follow instructions from Turkish authorities until traffic is fully back to normal.
