The Albena resort is hosting the annual meeting of Bulgaria's local authorities from today until 13 October, the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) said.
The meeting marks 30 years since NAMRB was founded. NAMRB – Active turns 20.
Municipalities, central government, business, academics and international partners are sending representatives. Topics include a new model for the household waste fee, children and families, digitalisation and cybersecurity. They also cover the quality and funding of municipal investment, the role of municipalities in running education, and preparing for climate risks and disasters. The traditional "Municipal Expo" will also open at the meeting.
A plenary session, "Horizons 2030: Municipalities on Bulgaria's European Path", will take place on 12 October, Bulgarian Municipality and Local Self-Government Day. Participants will discuss fiscal decentralisation, the 2027 budget and stable funding for local investment.
On 13 October the meeting ends with an international forum on disaster prevention, climate adaptation and recovery. It will show European and global solutions, along with practical lessons from municipalities that have faced real disasters and climate risks.
