Two people were killed and five others injured in a serious accident near the village of Nikolovo on the road to Kardzhali late this afternoon. The victims have been taken to hospitals in Haskovo and Kardzhali, according to the Haskovo Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior.

Ivan Rasokov, head of the "Road Police" sector at the Haskovo Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior, provided information to BTA. According to preliminary data, the cause of the incident was improper overtaking. One vehicle entered the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on collision with another car, after which one of the vehicles overturned into a ditch.

Due to the accident, traffic in the area is restricted, according to API. Detour routes have been implemented:

  • for the direction Kardzhali – for vehicles up to 12 t: via III-5009 Kozlets – Zornitsa – Beli Plast – Stremtsi – road III-5071 Stremtsi – Tri mogili – Chernoochene;
  • for vehicles over 12 t: road I-5 – road III-505 (Manastir village) – road III-507 Gorno Voyvodino – Most – Chiflik – Kardzhali;
  • for the direction Haskovo – III-506 Petelovo – Karamantsi – Spahievo – Mineralni bani – road III-806 Mineralni bani – Haskovo.

A serious accident also occurred yesterday near the Haskovo village of Manastir, in which a motorcyclist was killed.
