Consumer prices in Bulgaria fell 0.3% in September compared with August, but were still 5.6% higher than in September 2025, according to a flash estimate from the National Statistical Institute.

The "small basket" of goods and services bought by the poorest 20% of households moved the other way: up 0.2% on the month and up 1.9% on the year. Within it, food prices rose 0.7% and services 0.1%, while non-food goods fell 0.7%.

The steepest drop in consumer prices was in entertainment, sport and culture, down 10.4% from August. Restaurant and hotel prices fell 1.1%, while home furnishings, household goods and services and home maintenance costs dropped 0.5%.

Prices rose in transport, up 3.4%, education, up 3.2%, and alcohol and tobacco, up 1.1%.

Under the harmonised index of consumer prices, prices fell 0.1% on the month, while annual inflation also stood at 5.6%. Here, restaurant and hotel services dropped the most, down 4.3%, followed by entertainment, sport and culture, down 3.3%, and home furnishings and household goods, down 0.2%. Education rose 3.2%, transport 1.7%, and alcohol and tobacco 1%.

A month earlier, statisticians recorded a 0.6% rise on the month and 5.1% on the year, and the final August figures matched the earlier estimate. The last time prices fell was in June, when they dropped 0.9% from May.
