The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it will help draft and pass laws on jobs for people with disabilities. Chairman Tsvetan Simeonov made the pledge at a meeting with Petrana Nikolova, newly elected head of the Union of the Disabled in Bulgaria, at the chamber's offices.

Georgi Kolev, who has stepped down as the union's chairman, also took part.

Nikolova gave an overview of the union — its reach, the services it offers, how many members it has and how it works with institutions and the media. The union has fought for the rights of people with disabilities for 37 years and has belonged to the chamber for more than 15 years.

It has over 300 local branches, with offices in all 28 provinces, in more than 160 municipalities and in 18 districts of Sofia. It counts more than 28,000 individual members across Bulgaria.
