The ministry wants high-quality food that Bulgaria can promote to attract tourists, agriculture and food minister Plamen Abrovski said. He was speaking to a conference at the University of Food Technologies (UFT) in Plovdiv.
The forum is titled "Bulgarian food and wine – a key factor for tourism growth and the competitiveness of the destination". It is organised by the UFT and the National Tourism Board, with the Ministry of Tourism as institutional partner.
Food must be safe, but it must also be of very high quality, Abrovski said. He named dairy products, including yoghurt, and wine as Bulgarian foods that cannot be found elsewhere.
The minister has been linked to wine all his life. "22 years ago, my creative and professional path began at the Executive Agency for Vine and Wine," he recalled.
Now Abrovski has "the joy and the chance" to be in charge of food production, quality and safety.
